Top 5 Must-Haves for Your Freelancer Website

One of the best ways to appear professional to your clients is to have a clear, well-organized website. Once you have chosen your website builder, be sure to include the following information.

1. Home

Your homepage, or landing page, is your first impression. It is where your clients will be directed when they click your website link. Use this page to welcome your visitors and provide a brief overview of your business. You may mention your name, what you do, your background, and your contact info. Be brief and selective with what you include since you don’t want to clutter the page with information that will be restated in greater detail on separate pages.

2. Bio

The bio, profile, history, or about page is the place to explain who you are. You may give some background information or qualifications. You may also talk about how or why you started your business and what your goals are. Tell your visitors what is important to you, such as customer satisfaction, inexpensive rates, or timely content. This is not the place to talk about your services. That will come on our next page.

3. Services

Here, you will detail the services you offer. Tell your visitors what you do and how you do it and why you do it better than anyone else. For example, don't just say that you edit videos--explain what types of videos, their typical length, what programs you use, and how long it typically takes you to complete a project. You can also include customer reviews, if you have any.

Note: If you do include reviews, be sure to credit the reviewers with their full names or user names. Reviews without writers look fishy and fake.

4. Rates

Time to talk money. People can be very protective of their funds. You want to alleviate their fears of overpricing and scams by being as clear-cut as possible. One way to make pricing easier for your customers to understand is to create packages. Detail what each package includes and their deadlines. You should also provide methods of payment and any specific information such as paying half up front and half upon completion.

5. Contact

Tell your viewers about the best ways to get in contact with you--whether it be through an in-site messaging board, email, or phone call. You should also link your social media so that those interested can follow and promote your work. If you want your clients to answer specific questions when they reach out to you, here is the place to list those.

Starting a freelance website is the first step of your independent journey. It is both exciting and nerve-wracking time. I hope these tips help you create a professional website that is both effective and profitable.
